I spent over 22 years in corporate America, and I was good at it. Climbed the ladder, managed teams, hit the numbers. And then one day, like a lot of people, I got laid off. Gone. The title, the calendar, the identity I'd built around a job description. The end. With a 6:06 AM email. Thanks.
Here's what I had left: a family, a home I'd worked hard to own, and a clear-eyed understanding of what actually mattered. Real estate wasn't a pivot. It was just the thing I'd always been doing for myself. A condo in Kent. Then a townhome in West Seattle. Then a flip with my cousin in Burien. Then a single-family home in Bothell. I've lived every version of this process.
I've also navigated a divorce and the practicalities, the emotions, the question of what "home" even means when your life is being restructured. I know what that is. I've been there.
