Northshore School District Elementary Boundaries: A Street-Level Guide for Buyers
Northshore School District Elementary Boundaries: A Street-Level Must Have Guide for Buyers
Boundary lines shift every year. Which side of the street you're on can decide which elementary, middle, and high school your address feeds into. Here's how the map actually works.

It's time to talk about the elephant in the room. E is for elephant, and E is also for elementary, because the Northshore School District has a lot of them. Here's where things get complicated for buyers: which elementary school a given address feeds into depends on a boundary map that gets redrawn periodically, and that map does not always follow the lines you'd expect.
Sometimes it comes down to which street you're on. Sometimes it comes down to which side of that street you're on. I want to walk through how Northshore School District elementary boundaries work, because I see buyers make assumptions that turn out to be wrong, and an address-specific boundary check should happen before an offer goes in, not after closing.
Enrollment and district figures as of the 2026-2027 academic year per district-published data. Boundary lines and school assignments are subject to change. Always verify current boundary status for any specific address directly through NSD.org before making a purchase decision.
The Elephant in the Room (And the Elementary Schools)
Northshore School District covers Bothell, Kenmore, Woodinville, Brier, and Lake Forest Park, along with unincorporated pockets of King and Snohomish County in between. It is a big district. It has a long list of elementary schools, and that list, along with the boundary lines that determine who attends each one, is reviewed on a regular cycle and adjusted based on factors like new construction, enrollment shifts, and capacity planning at individual buildings.
I am not going to use this post to tell you which elementary school is better than another. That is not something I am licensed to do, and frankly, it is not something any agent should be doing. School quality is a deeply personal evaluation that depends on factors specific to each family's situation, and it is not my place to make that call for you.
What I can do, and what I think is actually more useful, is explain how the boundary system itself works. Because understanding the mechanics of how an address gets assigned to a school is something a buyer absolutely should know before writing an offer, and it is something a lot of buyers assume is simpler than it actually is.
How Northshore Boundary Lines Actually Work
Northshore School District assigns students to elementary, middle, and high school based on home address, using boundary maps maintained and published through NSD.org's Schools and Boundaries tool. The district provides an online address lookup along with downloadable boundary maps for elementary, middle, and high school zones.
Here is the part that surprises a lot of buyers: the elementary boundary, the middle school boundary, and the high school boundary are not always nested inside each other the way you'd expect. A student can attend a particular elementary school and then split off to a different middle or high school than their elementary classmates, depending on which side of a specific street their address falls on. The three boundary maps are drawn independently, even though they obviously interact for any given family's full K-12 path.
This matters enormously for buyers because it means you cannot assume that proximity to a particular elementary school guarantees a particular middle or high school down the line. Two homes a block apart, both feeding the same elementary school, can feed two entirely different high schools.
If a specific school pathway matters to your decision, the only reliable approach is to run the exact address through the NSD boundary tool, for all three levels, elementary, middle, and high school, before writing an offer. Don't extrapolate from a neighbor's address or a general sense of "that part of town." Boundaries are drawn street by street, sometimes side of street by side of street.
A Real Example: One Street in Thrasher's Corner
I live in Thrasher's Corner, right on the Bothell-Kenmore boundary, so I'll use my own street as the example because it illustrates exactly how granular this gets.
My boys' address puts them at Crystal Springs Elementary. But if our house sat on the south side of 9th Ave SE instead of where it actually is, they would attend Frank Love Elementary instead, despite being on the same street, in the same general neighborhood. Both paths would still lead to Bothell High School. The elementary assignment changes. The high school assignment, in that particular case, does not.
Now take a different boundary line entirely. If our home sat on the east side of Bothell-Everett Highway rather than where it currently sits, even while still attending Crystal Springs Elementary, my boys would end up at North Creek High School instead of Bothell High School. Same elementary school. Different high school. A boundary shift of a few hundred feet changes the entire K-12 pathway, and with it, the friend groups, the extracurricular communities, and the long-term social network a kid builds over thirteen years.
That is the part most people do not appreciate when they are searching for homes by neighborhood name alone. "Thrasher's Corner" or "North Bothell" is not a single boundary zone. It is a patchwork, and the patchwork is drawn at the street level, sometimes at the side-of-street level.
Want Help Running Boundary Checks on Specific Listings?
I check the NSD boundary tool against every listing I send a buyer who has school pathway on their mind. It takes five minutes and it prevents a five-year surprise.
Talk to Aaron Read: Bothell Neighborhoods RankedWhy Boundaries Change Year to Year
Boundary lines in Northshore School District are not static. The district periodically reviews and adjusts attendance zones in response to factors including new residential construction, enrollment growth or decline at specific buildings, and capacity planning across the district. A boundary that holds true this year is not guaranteed to hold true five years from now.
This is particularly relevant in fast-growing parts of the district, like areas near Beardslee District redevelopment in downtown Bothell or new construction along growth corridors in Woodinville and Kenmore. As new housing comes online, the district has to balance enrollment across buildings, and that sometimes means shifting which addresses feed into which schools.
For a buyer, this means two things. First, the boundary status of an address today is the most current information available, but it is not a permanent guarantee for the entire time a family might live in a home. Second, if boundary stability matters to your decision, it is worth asking whether a given area has had recent boundary adjustments and whether any are under discussion, which the district typically communicates through public board meetings and published notices on NSD.org.

How to Actually Check Your Address Before You Buy
Here is what I would say about that: do not rely on a listing description, a neighborhood name, or a conversation with a neighbor to determine school assignment for a specific address. Use the source directly.
- Step 1: Use the NSD boundary tool directly. Enter the exact address at NSD.org's Schools and Boundaries page, which runs the address against the elementary, middle, and high school maps independently.
- Step 2: Check all three levels, not just one. As the Thrasher's Corner example shows, an elementary assignment does not predict the middle or high school assignment. Run the address through each map separately.
- Step 3: Confirm with the district directly for anything time-sensitive. Online tools are generally accurate but the district itself, not a third-party real estate site, is the authoritative source if a boundary line is close to a property's exact location.
- Step 4: Ask about recent or pending boundary changes. If you are buying in a fast-growing pocket of the district, ask whether any boundary adjustments have occurred recently or are under review for upcoming years.
When a buyer tells me school pathway matters to their decision, my role is to run the boundary check on every serious listing and hand them the factual result. I don't rank schools, I don't editorialize on quality, and I don't make the decision for them. I get them the boundary facts so they can make an informed call based on what matters to their own situation.
Northshore School District boundaries are drawn at the street level, and sometimes at the side-of-street level, which means proximity alone never tells the full story. The only reliable way to know which elementary, middle, and high school a specific address feeds into is to run that exact address through the district's official boundary tool, for all three levels independently, before making an offer. Boundaries shift over time, so what's true today is the most current answer available, not a permanent guarantee.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find out which Northshore elementary school my address is assigned to?
Enter your exact address into the official boundary lookup tool at NSD.org's Schools and Boundaries page. The Northshore School District provides separate boundary maps and an address-based search tool for elementary, middle, and high school assignment, since these three boundaries are drawn independently of one another. A listing description or a general neighborhood name is not a reliable way to determine school assignment, since boundaries can change at the level of a single street or even one side of a street. For the most accurate result, always check the specific address rather than relying on a nearby property's assignment.
Can two houses on the same street be in different Northshore School District boundaries?
Yes. Northshore School District boundaries are sometimes drawn down the middle of a street, meaning one side of the road falls into a different attendance zone than the other side. This can affect elementary, middle, or high school assignment, and the three levels are mapped independently, so a boundary line that splits a street for elementary assignment may not align with the boundary line that splits the same street for middle or high school assignment. Buyers should never assume school assignment based on a neighboring property, and should always verify the exact address using the district's official boundary tool.
Do Northshore School District boundaries change every year?
Northshore School District boundaries are reviewed on a periodic basis and can be adjusted in response to factors such as new residential construction, enrollment changes, and capacity planning across district buildings. Not every boundary line changes every year, but the district does conduct ongoing review, particularly in fast-growing areas. Buyers should treat current boundary information as accurate as of today, not as a permanent guarantee for the full time they may own the home. Information about recent or pending boundary adjustments is typically available through district board meeting notes and published notices on NSD.org.
What cities are in the Northshore School District?
The Northshore School District covers Bothell, Kenmore, Woodinville, Brier, and Lake Forest Park, along with portions of unincorporated King and Snohomish County. The district was formed in 1959 through the consolidation of the former Bothell and Woodinville school districts. Because the district spans two counties and several incorporated cities, address-specific boundary verification is especially important, since city limits do not necessarily align with school attendance boundaries.
Does my elementary school assignment determine my middle school and high school in Northshore?
Not necessarily. Northshore School District maintains separate boundary maps for elementary, middle, and high school assignment, and these maps are not always nested inside one another. It is possible for an address to feed a particular elementary school while a neighboring address that feeds the same elementary school is assigned to a different middle or high school, based on a separate boundary line. Buyers who want to understand a complete K-12 pathway for a specific address should check all three boundary maps independently using the district's official lookup tool, rather than assuming the elementary assignment predicts the rest of the pathway.
Buying in the Northshore District and Want Boundary Clarity First?
I run the official NSD boundary check on every listing for buyers who tell me school pathway matters. Let's get you the facts before you fall in love with an address.
